Whatever happend to the students from the Blair Witch Project movie?

It was based on a true story but the movie was fake. Because at the end they were like "anyone who enter her home will die." well how did they get the tape if that's true. It took me a while to figure it out this kinda reminds me of the fourth kind they try to make it as realistic as possible but they make simple mistakes but it takes a while to decipher them.
